Verse 11

विकत्थी याचते प्रत्तम-विश्रम्भी मुहुर्जलम् । पर्जन्यं चातकः पक्षी निकृन्तन्निव मानसम् ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: The distrustful cataka bird, given to boasting as if cutting my heart, repeatedly begs for water which is already (being) given by the rain.

Verse 12

प्रलापिनो भविष्यन्ति कदा न्वेतेऽपलाषिणः।" । प्रमाथिनो वियुक्तानां हिंसकाः पाप-दर्दुराः ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: When, indeed, would these wretched, over-croaking frogs, given to overpowering and harming the separated lovers, tend to be void of desires ?’’

Verse 13

निन्दको रजनिंमन्यं दिवसं क्लेशको निशाम् । प्रावृष्यनैषीत्काकुत्स्थः कथंचित्परिदेवकः ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: The suffering Kakutstha given to wailing and critici sing, somehow passed the day that seemed to be the night and the night (too), during the rainy season.

Verse 14

अथोपशरदेऽपश्यत्क्रौञ्चानां चेष्टनैः कुलैः ।उत्कण्ठा-वर्धनैः शुभ्रं रवणैरम्बरं ततम् ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: Then, with the autumn nearby, he saw the white sky spread over with flocks of herons given to activity and worbling and (thus) increasing (his) longing.

Verse 15

विलोक्य द्योतनं चन्द्रं लक्ष्मणं शोचनोऽवदत् । "पश्य दन्द्रमणान्हंसानरविन्दसमुत्सुकान् ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: On observing the moon shining brightly, the grieving Rama said to Laksmana, Look at the swans longing for the lotuses and moving languidly,

Verse 16

कपिश्चङ्क्रमणोऽद्यापि नाऽसौ भवति गर्धनः । कुर्वन्ति कोपनं तारा मण्डना गगनस्य माम् ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: ‘‘That lustful monkey is not given to gradual movement even today! The stars adorning the sky render me prone to anger.

Verse 17

नाऽवैत्याप्यायितारं किं कमलानि रविं कपिः । दीपितारं दिनाऽऽरम्भे निरस्त-ध्वान्त-संचयम् ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: Does the monkey (Sugriva) not know (that) the nourisher of lotuses, the sun, who would have dispelled the mass of darkness (will now) shine brightly at the beginning of the day ?

Verse 18

अतीते वर्षुके काले प्रमत्तः स्थायुको गृहे । गामुको ध्रुवमध्वानं सुग्रीवो वालिना गतम् ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: While the showering (rainyseason is gone, the negligent stay-at-home Sugriva is certainly deemed to go the way traversed by Vali.

Verse 19

जल्पाकीभिः सहाऽऽसीनः स्त्रीभिः प्रजविना त्वया । गत्वा लक्ष्मण ! वक्तव्यो जयिना निष्ठुरं वचः ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: "He seated (forever) with garrulous women, should be addressed (in) merciless words by your speedy and triumphant self.

Verse 20

शैले विश्रयिणं क्षिप्रमनादरिणमभ्यमी । न्यायं परिभवी ब्रूहि पापम-व्यथिनं कपिम् ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: "Going (to him) straight and humiliating (him), speak just words to the unrepenting and sinful monkey.
