Verse 21

विकुर्वे नगरे तस्य पापस्याऽद्य रघु-द्विषः । विनेष्ये वा प्रियान्प्राणानुदानेष्येऽथवा यशः ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: "I shall play havoc in the capital of that enemy of Rama ; I shall either give up my dear life or raise high (my) reputation.

Verse 22

विनेष्ये क्रोधमथवा क्रममाणोऽरि-संसदि" ।इत्युक्त्वा खे पराक्रंस्त तूर्णं सूनुर्नभस्वतः ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: Or, entering unobstructed into the enemy's court, I shall give vent to my wrath." Having spoken thus, the son of (god) Wind speedily leapt into the sky.

Verse 23

परीक्षितुमुपाक्रंस्त राक्षसी तस्य विक्रमम् । दिवमाक्रममाणेव केतु-तारा भय-प्रदा ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: Like a terrific comet assaulting the sky, a demoness rushed at him (as if) to test his valour.

Verse 24

जले विक्रममाणाया हनूमान्शत-योजनम् ।आस्यं प्रविश्य निरयादणूभूयाऽप्रचेतितः ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: Having entered the hundred y०janas-wide mouth of hers who was walking forcefully in the water, Hanuman, assuming an atomic form came out unnoticed.

Verse 25

द्रष्टुं प्रक्रममाणोऽसौ सीतामम्भोनिधेस्तटम् ।उपाक्रंस्ताऽऽकुलं घोरैः क्रममाणैर्निशाचरैः ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: Starting to find out Sta, he walked towards the seashore that was infested by terrible demons who were roaming about.

Verse 26

आत्मानमपजानानः शश-मात्रोऽनयद्दिनम् । ज्ञास्ये रात्राविति प्राज्ञः प्रत्यज्ञास्त क्रिया-पटुः ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: Concealing himself, (by reducing himself to the size of a rabbit, he passed the day. The intelligent one, expert in (his ) tasks, promised himself thus, I shall apprehend her during the night.

Verse 27

संजानानान्परिधरन्रावणाऽनुचरान्बहून् । लङ्कां समाविशद्रात्रौ वदमानोऽरि-दुर्गमाम् ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: Avoiding the numerous attendants who were watching, he, an expert in talking, entered Lanka at night.

Verse 28

किंचिन्नोपावदिष्टाऽसौ केनचिद्व्यवदिष्ट न । शृण्वन्संप्रवदमानाद्रावणस्य गुणान्जनात् ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: Listening to the people who were proclaiming, all at once, the virtues of Ravana, he neither conversed with anyone nor was he addressed by anyone.

Verse 29

जल्पितोत्क्रुष्ट-संगीत-प्रनृत्त-स्मित-वल्गितैः । घोषस्यान्ववदिष्टेव लङ्का पुता-क्रतोः पुरः ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: By means of conversations challenges, songs, dances, laughter and braggings, Lanka echoed, as it were, the capital city of Indra.

Verse 30

ऐद्विप्रवदमानैस्तां संयुक्तां ब्रह्म-राक्षसैः । तथाऽवगिरमाणैश्च पिशाचैर्माम्स-शोणितम् ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: He went to that city possessed of ghosts of brahmins Wrangling diversely with contrary (philosophical) views, as also by goblins (voraciously) gulping flesh and blood.
