Verse 61

गते तस्मिन्जल-शुचिः शुद्ध-दन्रावणः शिखी । जञ्जपूकोऽक्ष-माला-वान्धारयो मृदलाबुनः ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: After he was gone, Ravana who was pure with (a bath in) water, whose teeth were clean, who bore a tuft of hair , who recited prayers constantly, who had a rosary of beads and carried a gourd-like earthen pitcher ;

Verse 62

कमण्डलु-कपालेन शिरसा च मृजा-वता । संवस्त्र्य लाक्षिके वस्त्रे मात्राः संभाण्ड्य दण्ड-वान् ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: -(equipped) with the shell of a water-jar, a clean- groomed head and a staff, clad in lac-dyed garments and having procured the necessary material;

Verse 63

अधीयन्नात्म-विद्विद्यां धारयन्मस्करि-व्रतम् । वदन्बह्वङ्गुलि-स्फोटं भ्रू-क्षेपं च विलोकयन् ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: - reciting the spiritual lore (Upanisads, keeping the vow of an ascetic speaking mostly with the movements of (his) fingers, and gazing with unkait eyebrows;

Verse 64

संदिदर्शयिषुः साम निजुह्नूषुः क्षपाट-ताम् । चंक्रमा-वान्समागत्य सीतामूचे"सुखाभव।" ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: -intent on exhibiting peace-lovingness and con- cealing his identity as a demon, having faltering steps, having approached Sita, said, ‘Be agreeable (happy)."

Verse 65

सायं-तनीं तिथि-प्रण्यः पङ्कजानां दिवा-तनीम् । कान्तिं कान्त्या सदा-तन्या ह्रेपयन्ती शुचि-स्मिता ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: Having a bright smile and putting to shame, by your ever-lasting charm, the evening lustre of the moon and the day-time beauty of the sun-lotuses;

Verse 66

का त्वमेकाकिनी भीरु ! निरन्वय-जने वने । क्षुध्यन्तोऽप्यघसन्व्यालास्त्वाम-पालां कथं न वा ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: ‘‘Oh timid one ! who are you, all alone in this forest, devoid of contact with human beings ? Or, how (is it) that wild beasts, though hungry, did not devour you who have no protector ?

Verse 67

हृदयं-गम-मूर्तिस्त्वं सुभगं-भावुकं वनम् । कुर्वाणा भीममप्येतद्वदाऽभ्यैः केन हेतुना ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: Rendering agreeable even this terrific forest, say, with what intention, have you, whose form is attractive to the heart, arrived here ?

Verse 68

सुकृतं प्रिय-कारी त्वं कं हरस्युपतिष्ठसे । पुण्य-कृच्चाटु-कारस्ते किङ्करः सुरतेषु कः ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: What fortunate (person) do you, who behave pleasantly, wait upon in privacy ? Who is thy meritorious and sweet-speaking errand-boy during love-sports ?

Verse 69

परि-पर्युदधे रूपमा-द्यु-लोकाच्च दुर्-लभम्। । भावत्कं दृष्टवत्स्वेतदस्मास्वधि सु-जीवितम् ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: Blessed is this life that is within us who have observed this beauty of yours which is beyond the (scope of) the ocean and difficult to get from the heaven.

Verse 70

आपीत-मधुका भृङ्गैः सुदिवेवाऽरविन्दिनी । सत्-परिमल-लक्ष्मीका नाऽ-पुंस्काऽसीति मे मतिः ॥

Metre: अनुष्टुप्

Karandikar: Like a lotus-creeper whose honey is fully sucked by the bees and who is blessed with a sunny day, you, possessing the affluence of fragrance, are not without a male, that is my opinion.
