भट्टिकाव्यम् (रावणवधः)

Verse 51

अथ ददृशुरुदीर्ण-धूम-धूम्रां दिशमुदधि-व्यवधिं समेत-सीताम् । सह-रघुतनयाः प्लवङ्ग-सेनाः पवन-सुताऽङ्गुलि-दर्शितामुदक्षाः ॥

Metre: पुष्पिताग्रा

Karandikar: Thereafter, along with the descendants of Raghu, the monkey troops that had raised their eyes looked at the direction that was dusky on account of the thick smoke, that was separated by the sea, that possessed Sita and that was pointed out by the finger of the Son of the Wind.

Verse 52

जल-निधिमगमन्महेन्द्र-कुञ्जात्प्रचय-तिरोहित-तिग्म-रश्मि-भासः । सलिल-समुदयैर्महा-तरङ्गैर्भुवन-भर-क्षममप्य-भिन्न-वेलम् ॥

Metre: पुष्पिताग्रा

Karandikar: From the bowers of the mountain Mahendra that hid the lustre of the sun with its height, they proceeded to the ocean which, though capable of filling up the world with its ample waters and huge billows, did not cross its shores ;

Verse 53

पृथु-गुरु-मणि-शुक्ति-गर्भ-भासा ग्लपित-रसा-तल-संभृताऽन्धकारम् ।उपहत-रवि-रश्मि-वृत्तिमुच्चैः प्रलघु-परिप्लवमान-वज्र-जालैः ॥

Metre: पुष्पिताग्रा

Karandikar: -which, by the lustre from the cavity of the shells containing big and heavy gems subdued the darkness that pervaded the nether world and checked the diffusion, high up, of the rays of the sun with networks of diamonds that were foating (on its surface);

Verse 54

समुपचित-जलं विवर्धमानै- र-मल-सरित्-सलिलैर्विभावरीषु । स्फुटमवगमयन्तमूढ-वारीन्शश-धर-रत्न-मयान्महेन्द्र-सानून् ॥

Metre: पुष्पिताग्रा

Karandikar: —whose water swelled on account of the clear river waters rising up at night and which was thus clearly indicating that the summits of the Mahendra mountain contained profuse moon-stones and bore water.

Verse 55

भुवन-भर-सहान-लङ्घ्य-धाम्नः पुरु-रुचि-रत्न-भृतो गुरूरु-देहान् । श्रम-विधुर-विलीन-कूर्म-नक्रान्दधतमुदूढ-भुवो गिरीनहींश्च ॥

Metre: पुष्पिताग्रा

Karandikar: -which was containing serpents and mountain-peaks that were capable of bearing the weight of the earth, that contained copious brilliant gems that had huge|heavy forms, that propped up the earth and wherein were concealed tortoises and crocodiles that were exhausted through exertion.

Verse 56

प्रददृशुरुरु-मुक्त-शीकरौघान्विमल-मणि-द्युति-संभृतेन्द्र-चापान् । जल-मुच इव धीर-मन्द्र-घोषान्क्षिति-परिताप-हृतो महा-तरङ्गान् ॥

Metre: पुष्पिताग्रा

Karandikar: (They) perceived the huge billows which scattered far and wide the gushes of spray, which augmented the rainbow with the lustre of (their) clear jewels, whose sound was loud and rumbling, which resembled the water-showering clouds and removed the all round heat of the earth.

Verse 57

विद्रुम-मणि-कृत-भूषा मुक्ता-फल-निकर-रञ्जिताऽऽत्मानः । बभुरुदक-नाग-भग्ना वेला-तट-शिखरिणो यत्र ॥

Metre: आर्या

Karandikar: -(the ocean ) where the sandy shores and the mountains that wore the ornaments of coral beads(that) painted themselves with hosts of pearls and (that) were broken by the water-elephants;

Verse 58

भृत-निखिल-रसा-तलः स-रत्नः शिखरि-समोर्मि-तिरोहिताऽन्तरीक्षः । कुत इह परमाऽर्थतो जलौघो जल-निधिमीयुरतः समेत्य मायाम् ॥

Metre: पुष्पिताग्रा

Karandikar: –having reached which (viz. the ocean) the monkeys attained an illusion : Whence (could) here be in reality a reservoir of water that pervaded the whole nether world, contained gems and veiled the sky with its mountain-like waves

Verse 59

शशि-रहितमपि प्रभूत-कान्तिं विबुध-हृत-श्रियमप्य-नष्ट-शोभम् । मथितमपि सुरैर्दिवं जलौघैः समभिभवन्तम-विक्षत-प्रभावम् ॥

Metre: पुष्पिताग्रा

Karandikar: -(a reservoir ) that possessed ample lustre, though it was devoid of the moon, that had not lost its charm though its treasure (Laksmi) was snatched away by the gods, overwhelmed the sky by its streams of water though it was churned (crushed) by the gods and whose prowess remained unhurt ;

Verse 60

क्षिति-कुल-गिरि-शेष-दिग्-गजेन्द्रान्सलिल-गतामिव नावमुद्वहन्तम् । धृत-विधुर-धरं महा-वराहं गिरि-गुरु-पोत्रमपीहितैर्जयन्तम् ॥

Metre: पुष्पिताग्रा

Karandikar: -(a reservoir) which bore the Earth, the dividing mountains, the serpent sesa and the mighty elephants of the quarters like a boat which floated on its waters and which, with its activities, was subduing even the mighty Boar that propped up the supportless earth and had a jaw as big as a mountain;
