भट्टिकाव्यम् (रावणवधः)

Verse 11

अ-सुलभ-हरि-संचारं जल-मूलं बहल-पङ्क-रुद्धाऽऽयामम् । भण किं जल-परिहीणं सु-गमं तिमि-कम्बु-वारि-वारण-भीमम् ॥

Metre: आर्यागीति

Karandikar: ‘'Say, (will) the base of the water reservoir which is devoid of water, (and yet) has its expanses blocked by massive ud and is terrifying by (its) whales, conchs and water- elephants, where the movement of the monkeys cannot be easy, be easily accessible ?"

Verse 12

गन्तुं लङ्का-तीरं बद्ध-महासलिल-संचरेण स-हेलम् । तरु-हरिणा गिरि-जालं वहन्तु गिरि-भार-संसहा गुरु-देहम् ॥

Karandikar: ‘‘Let the monkeys, capable of bearing the weight of the mountains, carry ( here a mass of boulders of heavy forms), for reaching the shore (near ) Lanka, with ease, by means of a huge bridge built across the water.

Verse 13

हर-हास-रुद्ध-विगमं पर-कण्ठ-गणं महाऽऽहव-समारम्भे । छिन्दन्तु राम-बाणा गम्भीरे मे जले महा-गिरि-बद्धे ॥

Metre: आर्यागीति

Karandikar: My deep water being bound down by huge boulders, let the arrows of Rama sever, in the great battlethe group of the enemy's throats whose destruction was blocked by Hara's (Siva's) laughter.

Verse 14

गच्छन्तु चारु-हासा वीर-रसाऽऽबन्ध-रुद्ध-भय-संबन्धम् । हन्तुं बहु-बाहु-बलं हरि-करिणो गिरि-वरोरु-देहं सहसा ॥

Metre: आर्यागीति

Karandikar: ‘Let the elephant-monkeys, with sweet smiles, go to kill suddenly the multi-armed Ravana's forces that have checked the onset of fear by (their) continuous pleasure in heroism and whose bodies are as massive as the best mountain."

Verse 15

जिगमिषया संयुक्ता बहूव कपि-वाहिनी मते दाशरथेः । बुद्ध-जलाऽऽलय-चित्ता गिरि-हरणाऽऽरम्भ-संभव-समालोला ॥

Metre: आर्यागीति

Karandikar: With the consent of Rama (the son of Dasaratha), the monkey-army, that had known the mind of the ocean, became engrossed in effecting the commencement of the fetching of mountains.

Verse 16

गुरु-गिरि-वर-हरण-सहं संहार-हिमारि-पिङ्गलं राम-बलम् ।आरूढं सहसा खं वरुणाऽऽलय-विमल-सलिल-गण-गम्भीरम् ॥

Metre: आर्यागीति

Karandikar: All of a sudden, Rama's army capable of carrying huge heavy boulders and tawny like the fire of destruction, ascended the sky, deep like the multitudes of the clear waters of the ocean (Varuna's abode) .

Verse 17

अवगाढं गिरि-जालं तुङ्ग-महा-भित्ति-रुद्ध-सुर-संचारम् ।अ-भयहरि-रास-भीमं करि-परिमल-चारु-बहल-कन्दर-सलिलम् ॥

Metre: आर्यागीति

Karandikar: By them was penetrated the network of mountains which blocked the movement of the gods with their lofty and massive cliffs, which was dreadful on account of the roars of fearless lions and wherein the water in the numerous caves was delightful on account of the scent of elephants' (rut);

Verse 18

अलि-गण-विलोल-कुसुमं स-कमल-जल-मत्त-कुरर-कारण्डव-गणम् । फणि-संकुल-भीम-गुहं करि-दन्त-समूढ-स-रस-वसुधा-खण्डम् ॥

Karandikar: -where the flowers were tremulous on account of the throngs of bees, wherein focks of geese and ospreys were intoxicated in the water full of lotuses, whose terrific caves were crowded with serpents and where blocks of wet earth were carried by the tusks of elephants ;

Verse 19

अरविन्द-रेणु-पिञ्जर- सारस-रव-हारि-विमल-बहु-चारु-जलम् । रवि-मणि-संभव-हिम-हर- समागमाऽऽबद्ध-बहुल-सुर-तरु-धूपम् ॥

Verse 20

हरि-रव-विलोल-वारण- गम्भीराऽऽबद्ध-स-रस-पुरु-संरावम् । घोणा-संगम-पङ्काऽऽ- विल-सुबल-भर-महोरु-वराहम् ॥

Metre: गीति

Karandikar: -where the deep cries of the elephants , which were disturbed by the roars of lions, built up ample noise full of (ferocious) sentiment and where the huge boars dirtied by the mud that stuck to their shouts were capable of bearing weight.
