भट्टिकाव्यम् (रावणवधः)

Verse 41

गुरूरु-चञ्चत्-कर-कर्ण-जिह्वै- रवज्ञयाऽग्राऽङ्गुलि-संगृहीतैः । रक्षाम्स्यनायास-हृतैरुपास्थुः कपोल-लीनाऽलि-कुलैर्गजेन्द्रैः ॥

Metre: उपजातिः

Karandikar: Demons waited with excellent elephants whose wide and huge trunk sears and tongues were waving, elephants which were controlled contemptfully with the small of the finger, which were fetched effortlessly and on whose temples rested swarms of bees.

Verse 42

निकृत्त-मत्त-द्विप-कुम्भ-मांसैः संपृक्त-मुक्तैर्हरयोऽग्र-पादैः ।आनिन्यिरे श्रेणिकृतास्तथाऽन्यैः परस्परं वालधि-सन्निबद्धाः ॥

Metre: उपजातिः

Karandikar: By (some) others were brought lions that were arranged into rows and tied to one another with (their own) tails, (and which were distinguished) by their paws that had torn off flesh from the temples of elephants in heat and (hence) had pearls stuck in them.

Verse 43

उपेक्षिता देव-गणैस्त्रसद्भिर्निषा-चरैर्वीत-भयैर्निकृत्ताः । तस्मिन्नदृश्यन्त सुर-द्रुमाणां स-जाल-पुष्प-स्तबकाः प्रकीर्णाः ॥

Metre: उपजातिः

Karandikar: Unheeded by the fearing hosts of gods (and) plucked by the demons whose fear was gone, the bunches of flowers, along with the buds of divine trees, were seen therein.

Verse 44

निराकरिष्णुर्द्विज-कुञ्जराणां तृणीकृताऽशेष-गुणोऽति-मोहात् । पापाऽशयानभ्युदयाऽर्थमार्चीत्प्राग्ब्रह्म-रक्षः-प्रवरान्दशाऽऽस्यः ॥

Metre: उपजातिः

Karandikar: Ravana, who, desirous of subduing them, trified with one and all of their virtues, worshipped first, for the sake of prosperity, the best of brahmin-demons whose intentions were sinful.

Verse 45

मायाविभिस्त्रास-करैर्जनाना- माप्तैरुपादान-परैरुपेतः । सतां विघातैक-रसैरविक्षत्सदः परिक्षोभित-भूमि-भागम् ॥

Metre: उपजातिः

Karandikar: Accompanied by friends who possessed magical powers that aroused fear in people and whose only interest was the destruction of the good, he entered the assembly wherein a part of the ground was shaken.

Verse 46

विघृत-निशित-शस्त्रैस्तद्युतं यातुधानै- रुरु-जठर-मुखीभिः संकुलं राक्षसीभिः । श्वगणि-शत-विकीर्णं वागुरा-वन्मृगीभिर्वनमिव स-भयाभिर्देव-बन्दीभिरासीत् ॥

Metre: मालिनी

Karandikar: Occupied by demons who wielded sharp weapons, crowded with demonesses whose bellies and mouths were huge, the assembly, on account of the terror-stricken captive goddesses, was like a forest strewn with hundreds of hunters and interspersed with female deer (caught) in nets.

Verse 47

जलद इव तडित्वान्प्राज्य-रत्न-प्रभाभिः प्रति-ककुभमुदस्यन्निस्वनं धीर-मन्द्रम् । शिखरमिव सुमेरोरासनं हैममुच्चैर्विविध-मणि-विचित्रं प्रोन्नतं सोऽध्यतिष्थत् ॥

Metre: मालिनी

Karandikar: By the lustre of his copious jewels resembling a cloud harbouring the lightning, projecting a deep and low peal in every direction, he ascended a lofty golden throne, variegated with numerous jewels and resembling the summit of the Sumeru mountain.
