Who He Is

Three Distinct Practices

Rik Amrit does not fit a single professional category. His work spans scholarship, editorial leadership, and strategic consultancy, each with its own logic, all rooted in a serious engagement with ideas and their public life.

I

The Scholar

His scholarly formation centres on the Nāṭyaśāstra, rasa theory, and Abhinavagupta's Abhinavabhāratī. He has lectured and written on classical Indian aesthetics, always with the aim of making a dense tradition genuinely accessible without flattening it.

His range extends to Kashmir Śaivism, Pāṇinian grammar, Sanskrit prosody, and the philosophy of the Ågamas. He has contributed to structured academic programmes in this area.

I
II

The Editor

As Editor-in-Chief of PIJCACE, published by Dhvani Publication, he has built an editorial programme bringing together philosophers, translators, and artists. He has organised seminars with scholars including Jonardon Ganeri and Madhucchanda Sen.

He oversees the full pipeline of the Poorvam journal and Poorvam Ideas platform, from submission to DOI assignment, across a nine-category editorial taxonomy.

II
III

The Writer

He writes in both Bengali and English. His published books include poetry, drama, and philosophical reflection. His theatre work spans a decade of directing, writing, and performance in the Bengali repertory tradition.

He also produces civic writing on West Bengal's democratic life, in a bilingual voice informed by republican political philosophy.

III
Intellectual Range

Areas of Sustained Engagement

Nāṭyaśāstra & Rasa Theory

Bharata's treatise, Abhinavagupta's commentary, and the aesthetics of emotional experience in classical Indian performance.

Yoga Philosophy

Pātañjala Yoga, the esoteric teachings of the Yoga Upaniṣads, and Kuṇḍalinī-based praxis — integrating aṣṭāṅga, subtle body dynamics, and the pursuit of citta-vṛtti-nirodha within the wider continuum of Yogic philosophy.

Sanskrit Philology

Pāṇinian grammar, classical prosody, and the textual traditions of ancient and medieval India.

Bengali Literature & Thought

Bengali poetry, prose, and the intellectual culture of Bengal, spanning classical scholarship and contemporary civic writing.

Academic Publishing & Editorial Culture

Journal design, editorial governance and the infrastructure of independent scholarly publishing.

Democratic Theory & Civic Writing

Republican political philosophy, psephology, and the practice of informed public writing in a bilingual register.

In His Own Terms

The Work Behind the Work

I am not interested in ideas that do not have the courage to become form — whether that form is a poem, a journal, a staged play, or a sentence that refuses easy comfort.

Rik Amrit is not a mere pseudonym; it embodies the essence of Amritanath. His journey spans diverse experiences—from the simplicity of a chulha to the grandeur of stage lights, from communism to the sacred reverence of Kamakhya. To him, the world is a mirror of language, and he firmly believes that "once a word is written on paper, it can never return to the pen." Varanasi is the city closest to his heart, the Mahābhārata is his treasured book, and Yama is his favorite poet.

As a scholar dedicated to reviving and contextualizing Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) for contemporary audiences, his work bridges millennia of wisdom with modern understanding through Nāṭyaśāstra, Rasa theory, and Vedic traditions.
